about Carolina Kecskemethy
Lima (Perú), 1960
Kecskemethy is an artist who allows herself to assimilate seemingly opposing influences and turn painting into a rigorous intellectual activity. Her works suggest that the meaning of a painting does not lie so much in the subject but in the internal formal relationships that may emerge. Her creations reflect the projection of emotions and thoughts onto specific forms. A demystifier and an unyielding judge of reality, the artist offers us, through her work, a reflection that stands as a lucid perspective on the art of our time.
Halfway between satire and irony, this reflection may, however, seem less intuitive for those who insist on complicating her approach with symbols and intentions, as if everything interesting must necessarily be obscure. The search for the hidden presence of things leads Kecskemethy to immerse herself in reality without making distinctions between the objective and the subjective, in such a way that pure materiality ultimately reveals the accumulated experiences. This is why the artist refuses to walk familiar paths, and her work manifests as a superimposition of different stages and aesthetics.
