Art Madrid'24 – Antonio Ovejero

Antonio Ovejero

Valencia, 1999

Antonio Ovejero, Valencia, graduated in Fine Arts in 2022 and completed a Master's in Artistic Production in 2023 at the Universitat Politècnica de València, Faculty of Fine Arts of San Carles.

His work delves into figurative pictorial experimentation. Antonio Ovejero explores memory and the recovery of scenes that reside in our collective imagination, focusing on the sublime aspects of everyday life. Elderly women adorned with jewelry, large handbags, patterned dresses, and extravagant hairstyles are the central subjects of his work. Through a kitsch aesthetic, he seeks ostentation in the traditional, the striking, and the pretentious.

Antonio Ovejero employs the iconography of patterns as an identity and aesthetic resource. For him, the combination of old age, the everyday, and elegance is a clear image: "An elderly woman who puts on her best dress and finest jewelry to grab her plastic chair and sit at the door of her house to enjoy the fresh air."
