about Tiffany Alfonseca

República Dominicana, 1994

Tiffany Alfonseca is a Dominican-American artist renowned for her vibrant portrayals of Afro-Diasporic communities, which reflect her deep cultural heritage and explore themes of race and identity. Utilizing bold colors and textured brushstrokes, her artwork captures both personal and collective narratives, emphasizing the resilience and vibrancy of Black and Brown communities often overlooked in contemporary art. Alfonseca's artistic philosophy focuses on amplifying marginalized voices and celebrating everyday moments, aiming to combat stereotypes and foster a sense of pride among Afro-Diasporic viewers. Alfonseca's educational background includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts, which laid the foundation for her artistic career. She has participated in notable residencies and exhibited widely, with significant solo shows like "De las manos que nos crearon" in Los Angeles and participation in major group exhibitions internationally. Beyond her exhibitions, Alfonseca engages in collaborative and curatorial projects that uplift underrepresented voices, such as her curatorial work at Jenkins Johnson Gallery and Calderon Gallery. Her impactful contributions continue to enhance the dialogue around identity, culture, and representation in the art world.
