about Andrés Montalván

Cuba, 1966

Andrés Montalbán (Cuba, 1966) is a sculptor and visual artist living and working between Paris and Havana. He trained at the Higher Institute of Art (ISA) and the San Alejandro Academy, specializing in sculpture and drawing, and also received bronze casting training at the National School of Fine Arts in Havana.

His work has been exhibited internationally in institutions such as the Williams Proctor Art Institute (USA, 2015), the 9th Havana Biennial (Cuba, 2006), and galleries in Paris, New York, and Dakar. He has also participated in major art fairs such as Art Jaén and Drapetomania (Harvard, 2015). His artistic practice explores themes of identity, diaspora, and freedom, often engaging with the Afro-descendant legacy.

As an educator, he taught sculpture at the San Alejandro Academy and the "Juan Pablo Duarte" School of Fine Arts. His works are part of collections like the Shelley and Donald Rubin Foundation (USA) and Alejandro de la Fuente (USA), establishing him as a prominent figure in contemporary art.
