Art Madrid'24 – Kihong Chung – Monologue 33 (2022)
about Kihong Chung
Corea del Sur, 1975
I started Architecture, a career partially related to art. Thus, little by little, letting time pass, and having interest, I gave myself over to painting, with which I try to search for myself and concentrate on my feelings. I think this can also be expressed in other ways that are expressed through art."
He says that "generally, the viewer accepts my style, which is very different from what we can find in other works and other painters. Many people, when they see my work, say yes, it has an oriental style, but it also contains a sensitivity, a calm... something that I am looking for. What Kihong Chung practices is a style called 'sumi-e', which consists of a watercolor technique originating in China and which, with its current name, was renamed by the Japanese. Painting that is born from Taoist philosophy and is based on respect for nature.”
