Rina Weiss, based in Kiel, Germany finds inspiration in memories, the most bright and powerful of which are rooted in the childhood. Her oil paintings tell familiar to everyone and at the same time very personal stories. Weiss’s artworks remind the way the real reminiscences flow behind the spectator’s inner sight. That is why sometimes parts of the canvas are left bare and some figures completely painted while others merely sketches – as though, there is always something indistinct, something half-forgotten, something that the artist or the viewer can fill their own colors, details and emotions. Her characters are like longtime old cronies you met by chance, but here you recognize them. They invite the viewer to a talk about a memory or a date with oneself from the past. The artist creates a special atmosphere of coziness, warmth and security through calm colors.
