Art Madrid'24 – Xan Medina
Xan Medina
Huelva, 1965
Xan Medina, born in 1965 in Doñana, Huelva, is a contemporary artist who lives between Berlin, Seville and his homeland. His work is a provocative and deeply psychological exploration of the ‘miseries and virtues of the human being’, as he himself defines it. Medina uses images obtained from the web, which he decontextualises and transforms to give them new meanings, creating original, intimate and provocative pieces.
The central themes of his work include death, the grotesque, tragicomedy, infants, sex and animals, especially those that evoke his native Doñana. His style fuses elements of literary fable with an acute exploration of the contemporary psyche, inviting the viewer to question through the drama of his compositions.
Medina has exhibited at leading international galleries, including Gallery Glass (Berlin, 2023), Gallery Art Fares (Hamburg, 2020) and Gallery T (Düsseldorf, 2019 and 2017). His work is a visual testimony to human anguish, illuminating suffering and challenging the ordinary with artistic daring.
