In “urban views” one can notice two different plans that are present in Joana Gancho’s artistic work. On one hand the work full of anonymous people, who meet in the space of the drawings and mix in the architecture of the city, the geometry around them. They are a multitude of people with no face, who meet in that specific instant and are themselves a view, as if it were possible to stop the hustle and bustle of the daily life in a city and to capture one instant forever. What we have is the image and energy of the constant movement of buildings and the people who live there or pass by.

On the other hand, there are the canvases, apparently uninhabited, where plans, lines and the study of colour projects in the plans or parts of urban buildings.

In the two phases of this work each fragment is cut from a wider perspective, as if we looked at the view through a window, knowing that it continues beyond the limits we are able to see. We all have a relationship with the city and when we try to understand these paintings we reflect our personal interpretation of a city.
