Art Madrid'24 – David Sánchez
David Sánchez
Valencia, 1983
David Sánchez is a Spanish artist born in 1983 in Valencia. He began doing graffiti under the name SEB at the age of 13. His work explores contemporary visual ecosystems and how elements of deconstruction coexist with the purity of straight lines. Sánchez imbues his work with a spirit of research and exploration, relentlessly seeking the outcomes of constructive processes rather than focusing solely on the process itself. In this space, he interacts with gesture and imprint. Perhaps influenced by his beginnings in graffiti, he demonstrates a keen sensitivity to color and chromatic richness. He pays close attention to composition, ensuring that nothing is left to chance. However, he never uses a preliminary sketch; instead, he directly approaches the format with an idea, layering and building it as if working with Photoshop.
In his Valencia studio, his creations are meticulously crafted, constantly pushing the boundaries of format and material. In his latest solo project, Y N G R A V I T Y, presented at La Mercería Gallery, the artist showcases sensory atmospheres through registers on different planes. The installation offers an immersive experience, with the use of methacrylate evoking a sensation similar to entering the sea with crystal-clear water.
