René Tavares is a multidisciplinary artist with a degree from the National Fine Arts School of Dakar, Senegal. In 2008, he received a scholarship to attend the School of Fine Arts of Rennes, he also completed the photography course of the ARC/Rennes. René Tavares is an artist who reflects upon, through his work, his own experience of displacement and modern resettlement within the postcolonial context.
His work has been shown in numerous cities, including Paris, Bordeaux, Amsterdam, Brussels, Luanda and Lisbon. In 2008, he participated in Africa Now! exhibition, organized by the World Bank in Washington, D.C. In 2014, his work was shown at the Architectural Biennial of Venice, within the context of the Ilhas de São Jorge project, supported by the Beyond Entropy organization.
