Art Madrid'24 – Yohy Suárez
Yohy Suárez
La Habana (Cuba), 1989
Graduated with honors from the San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts (2010), he has opted for a work whose center is the anthropological value of the image. In his painting the photographic and the drawing merge in a language of great expressive precision. The Havana squares, emblematic buildings of the capital, historical scenarios par excellence, are reconstructed as narrative spaces of archaeological value. His peculiar way of dialoguing with urban reality is the product of his first aesthetic experiences, in his childhood, when the urban landscape available from his terrace was contaminated with images of the city's golden past, stories that reached him through the popular voice . He has participated in some thirty exhibitions, including personal and collective, both in Cuba and internationally. His work can be found in collections in Spain, the United States and Panama. He has won the International Caravaggio Prize and the Arte Laguna Special Prize, both in Italy. He lives and works in Havana.
