Art Madrid'24 – TENG Pu-Chun
TENG Pu-Chun
Hualien (Taiwan), 1957
Teng Pu-Chun (b. 1957, Hualien, Taiwan) is a distinguished ink painter known for blending tradition and innovation. A graduate of the National Taiwan Academy of Arts (now National Taiwan University of Arts), his early fascination with the textures of stones and trees cultivated his sensitivity to intricate details. Eschewing conventional paths, Teng chose a life of freedom in eastern Taiwan, away from Taipei's art circles.
Teng's ink landscapes reinterpret traditional Chinese painting with multiple perspectives and a distinct "rolled wrinkle strokes" technique he pioneered. His work diverges from the elegance of classical literati painters, offering instead a carefree, modern aesthetic. Majestic yet delicate, his surreal depictions of mountains, waters, and trees evoke a magical realm that transcends visible reality. Teng's innovative approach enriches the modern ink art vocabulary, inviting viewers into a fantastical world that bridges the archaic and the contemporary.
