Art Madrid'24 – Mr. Brainwash

Mr. Brainwash

Los Ángeles, (EE.UU), 1966

Mr. Brainwash is the stage name of film director Thierry Guetta. He lives and works in Los Angeles. He started filming urban art documentaries, to move from being the observer to being the artist, debuting with great success in 2008 with a massive exhibition "Life is beautiful". He is known worldwide for the film Exit through the Gift Shop, directed by fellow artist Bansky. His style, appropriationist, mixes American pop art with the aesthetics of countercultural street art. He has designed album covers for Madonna, Rick Ross and KYGO. His work has been featured in feature films and television productions such as Molly's Game, Billions, Shameless and Kardashians. His creations have partnered in collaboration with powerhouse brands such as Hublot, Coca Cola and Marvel Comics. In early 2020 he began temporarily transforming the former Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills, designed by architect Richard Meier in 1996, into his own museum. The Los Angeles-born French artist closed a deal that will allow him to lease the building, which was bought by luxury brand LVMH for $80 million in 2018.
