Art Madrid'24 – Florencia Martinez
Florencia Martinez
Argentina, 1962
Since 1990, Florencia Martinez has lived and worked in Milan. Trained at the San Martín and De La Cárcova Fine Arts Academies in her hometown, she studied under renowned painters such as Dermijian, Carlos Gorriarena, and Roberto Páez. After moving to Italy, her artistic career evolved through various phases: initially exploring themes such as immigration, later focusing on domestic violence, particularly in relation to childhood, and eventually investigating postwar photographic materials.
Starting in 2002, her focus shifted toward everyday life, gradually moving away from documenting the past. Combining photography and embroidery, Martinez began to tell intimate stories of individuals, transforming their experiences into visual imprints that capture both memory and the present.
