Born in 1987 in Fujian, Cai Yixiu graduated from Fuzhou School of Arts and Crafts. After graduating, he interned at the studio of Shanghai artist Su Xiaobai in 2008 and has been engaged in lacquer art for many years, now a professional artist. Focused on lacquer art creation, Cai Yixiu is affectionately called "Cai Yixiu" by friends due to his resemblance to the character "Yi Xiu" from his given name Cai Chuanshao. "How to combine tradition and modernity is something I have always been exploring," says Cai Yixiu. At the time, the young Cai Yixiu apprenticed under artists Zheng Chongyao and Su Xiaobai. Initially, during the stage of self-exploration and creation, he leaned towards the craftsmanship technique. Under the guidance of Zheng Chongyao, he honed his craftsmanship techniques, and it was only after meeting Su Xiaobai by chance that he stepped out of the confines of traditional craftsmanship, as if seeing a new world. From then on, he began pondering the subtle connection between art and craftsmanship.
